The intense acting alone makes this by far the best version performed so far in the Netherlands.
Thrilling, tastefully and convincing.
This production deserves a national tour.
De Telegraaf ****
What an unknown flawless performance. The musical Sweeney Todd, a funny canabalistic horror story, is a gift.
Because the cast performes the rich material clean and in a set tempo. They sing and act with style, the energy and joy is easy to see.
The ensemble is distinguished by strong vocals, quick change of character and clean executed choreographies (by Chiara Re) and they deserve nothing more than praise.
In this setting the cast sings this morbide story to great heights. Stephen Sondheim his musical Sweeney Todd is so good because of the surprising plot changes, the spooky ending and the unusual musical sound. But this intimate performance is caried by the actors.
Het Parool ****
The choreography (Chiara Re) gets more power in the second act, because of the more powerful songs. The build up to the climax gets more and more grim. They are sticking their necks out again and this gets rewarded with a powerful, dark piece. Just how it should be performed. Sweeney Todd is executed terrifyingly well!
We won't tell you more, because the plot changes are surprising. This show worked out very well.
It is the intimate setting that sucks you into the story, partly because the whole room is being used.
